About the Blacksmith

My name is Ash Garstang. I trained for three years in Blacksmithing and metalwork at the Holme Lacy Rural Crafts College in Herefordshire. After this I was accepted onto The Prince's Foundation Building Crafts Programme. This allowed me the opportunity to work on joint projects with various other Heritage craftsmen and deepen my passion for building heritage. I was also given the chance to travel the UK working with blacksmithing companies and organisations on various artistic, commercial and conservation blacksmithing projects. I recently completed an NVQ LV3 in heritage blacksmithing (awaiting certification) and I have trained in the conservation of architectural ironwork with the National Heritage ironwork group.

I am now lucky enough to be based at Hereford make CIC where I can contribute to and share the tools, equipment and experience of the Hereford make team. Through this i can practice an iconic trade that I love, that was once so common , so that i can work to spread a greater knowledge and appreciation of heritage ironwork.
